Troubleshooting & Notes

Troubleshooting

Common issues, diagnostic steps, and fixes for OptiDraw setup and runtime problems.

General Diagnostics

  • Open Window → OptiDraw → Debug Info to see which painting engine is active and which data asset is bound
  • Check the Console for OptiDraw-prefixed warnings — they include the affected GameObject name and recommended action
  • If the Painter panel is blank, ensure a GameObject with MeshRenderer or SkinnedMeshRenderer is selected

Paint Strokes Not Appearing

  • Verify an OptiDrawData asset is assigned in the Painter panel (Create New if missing)
  • Check that the assigned material's shader reads the channel you are painting (e.g., vertex color paint with a shader that ignores vertex colors won't show)
  • Ensure Scene View Shading Mode is Shaded — Wireframe and other modes suppress material output

Performance Drops During Painting

  • Reduce brush Radius — oversized brushes on dense meshes increase Burst job workload
  • Close unused Layer Stack entries — each active layer adds GPU evaluation cost
  • For meshes > 1M vertices, enable the Coarse Mode toggle in Painter Settings (reduces falloff precision but halves CPU cost)

Animation Draw Mode Not Activating

  • Confirm the selected GameObject has a SkinnedMeshRenderer (not a MeshRenderer)
  • An Animator component must be present and have an active AnimatorController assigned
  • Press Play in the editor before switching to Animation Draw Mode — the mode requires the pose to be live
